Sir Fredrick is a Paladin of Pelor who has recently (as of 1198) gone missing. He is an esteemed member of the church’s militant order, and considered a hero by many. His disappearance while on a quest to deliver a relic to a far-flung shrine and restore it has attracted the attention of the Order of Twilight’s Shadow. Although his bravery and valor are well known, his purity is not above questioning. They sent Carter Selyn on his trail to investigate. The last known sighting of Sir Fredrick placed him in the Eastern Forest, in the presence of a hermit-like druid living in the forest, D’Arcy. Carter sought out D’Arcy, finding him (but actually future him) in the nearby town of Tarmikos, and eventually joined his group of time traveling compatriots and convinced them to look for the lost paladin.
Fredrick Cooper earned his title at the battle of Kenlin Castle 8 years previously. An army of orcs had laid waste to the country side around the castle, and the survivors took shelter in the keep. The defenders had sent for aid, being vastly outnumbered by the brutish creatures. The orcs even brought forth enslaved Manticores once the attack on the castle proper begun. All hoped seemed to be lost, when a pillar of sunlight broke through the clouds west of the castle. Fredrick led a band of holy warriors, paladins and temple militia, into the thick of the orc army. Their steeds crashed into the orc lines, distracting them from the castle siege. Undisciplined and with their numbers split, their attempts to breach the castle walls failed. Fredrick waded into the horde, his giant maul swinging and smashing greenskins aside. Three of the manticores were confirmed by witnesses in the castle to be slain by his hands, although legend holds it was closer to a dozen. It is also said the orcs finally retreated only after the pile of corpses around the paladin was so high they could no longer see him, only a pillar of holy light. Of the interdiction, he was the only survivor.
Sir Fredrick is generally a reserved and humble man; he almost refused the honorific because so many of his fellows died around him.
